OUR
PROGRAMS-
THE
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER -
Was
established in 1958 as a low-cost day care and educational
development program for preschool children. It provides head
start and kindergarten instruction designed to meet each child's
physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs. The capacity
of the center is 60 children.
THE
SENIOR CENTER FORTHE DEAF & HARD-OF-HEARING
- Is
a nutrition consumer information program providing recreational
activities elderly deaf residents. Daily hot lunches, a wholesome
environment, counseling and transportation are provided typically
to 10-25 seniors per day. The program has been in existence
for more than eighty years.
THE
MALE YOUTH ENHANCEMENT & AFTER SCHOOL YOUTH PROGRAM
(Ages
8-18) provides training in literacy, math, science, computers,
life skills, and other fundamentals, and promotes academic
achievement, sound critical achievement, strong moral and
ethical values, and behaviors. The programs have served more
then 1200 youth since 1985.
THE
SHILOH DEBUTANTE PROGRAM - Is
a rites of passage program for teenage girls. The activities
and events are designed to nurture, motivate, strengthen,
and shape character as well as develop talent and leadership
skills. College scholarships are awarded to seniors who graduate
from the group.
THE
HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAM
- Provides counseling, emergency
funds, food, transportation, clothing assistance, and referrals
to adults in crises. The program serves several hundred persons
per month.
THE
COMMUNITY COMPUTER CENTER
- Provides
state-of-the-art computer skills training to youth after school,
to persons seeking to become gainfully employed, and to seniors
who want to improve their at-home communication. Weekend and
summer programs are also available.
CHURCH
COMMUNITY PARTNERS AGAINST HIV/AIDS - Church
Community Partners Against HIV/AIDS provides outreach, capacity
building, technical assistance, forums, discussion groups,
seminars and workshops on HIV/AIDS throughout the Washington
Metropolitan area. Those benefiting from services include
faith-based organizations, beauty, barber, and nail salons,
community groups and individuals infected/affected by HIV/AIDS.
TEEN
MOTHERS TAKE CHARGE - Is
a program addressing in a holistic fashion the needs of teenage
mothers. Counseling, referrals, social services, and many
other services are offered to your mothers to reduce the incidence
of pregnancy in teenage girls who are not married. The program
has resources to support two hundred such mothers.
